How does ARFID Collaborative address the needs of underserved populations?
ARFID Collaborative is a team of clinicians including dietitians, speech language pathologists, social workers, and psychologists that all specialize in treating and managing eating disorders, especially ARFID. Through raising awareness, providing resources, and emphasizing ARFID education, health outcomes in individuals with ARFID can be improved.
Is ARFID a common disorder?
Because ARFID is a relatively new diagnosis (added in the DSM-5, 2013) and large population studies are still limited, estimates vary widely depending on the sample and methods used.
Can ARFID cause medical complications if untreated?
Yes, ARFID has the potential to cause negative health outcomes if left untreated, including failure to grow, delayed puberty, low blood sugar, or digestive issues. This highlights an issue that ARFID Collaborative seeks to address, reflecting the importance of awareness and recognition.
Can ARFID Collaborative help me get in touch with other individuals with ARFID?
In our “Helpful Websites and Links” section, we have linked a wide variety of different Facebook support groups for individuals with ARFID.
Does ARFID Collaborative directly provide me with therapy?
No, ARFID Collaborative does not provide clinical treatment, but rather, connects individuals with ARFID to clinicians who have specialized expertise working with the diagnosis and symptomatology.
I’m a healthcare provider, and I would like to get involved and support the ARFID community. How can I do that?
In our “For Providers” section, we list a variety of resources that can be utilized by providers to learn about ARFID, including webinars, books, training sessions, and courses. You can even earn continuing education credits (CEUs) by
completing the 12-chapter training course listed among the resources!
Does ARFID Collaborative screen or vet the healthcare providers?
No, ARFID Collaborative does not screen, vet, or endorse the healthcare providers. This emphasizes the importance of researching the qualifications and skills of your desired healthcare provider before engaging in treatment with them.
Are there any research opportunities available for individuals with ARFID?
Yes, under our “Research Opportunities” section with list a variety of different clinical trials/studies (not conducted by ARFID Collaborative) that are actively recruiting individuals with ARFID. There is even the opportunity for compensation if you participate in some of the research!
Does it cost money to use ARFID Collaborative?
Not necessarily - while some of the resources cost money, many of them are free to use. Check out the “Groups” page for more information!
